Angel Armies
Wake up, you living gateways, and rejoice! Fling wide, you eternal doors! Here He comes; the King of Glory is ready to come in. You ask, “Who is this King of Glory?” He is Yahweh, armed and ready for battle, the Mighty One, the invincible commander of heaven’s hosts! Yes, He is the King of Glory! Psalm 24:910 TPT
Who is the Lord of Hosts (Angel Armies)
In the above Psalm King David introduces the Commander of the angel army. In the Hebrew He is Jehovah Tsaba. It is not a title, rather it is a name of God, and it is critically important when we consider the benefits. This name of God translates into English as The Lord of Hosts (Angel Armies). Jehovah (or Yahweh) is transliteration of the Hebrew for the distinctive Hebrew name for God. Tsaba, is transliteration of the Hebrew for Tzevaot, Tsebaoth or Sabaoth, צבאות or צָבָא. Jehovah Tsaba (Lord of Hosts) is the specific name that declares one aspect of God’s being and nature as Lord of an enormous group of warring Angels wholly and solely obedient to His will and direction. A phenomenal event called The Day of Jehovah Tsaba is at hand! There are several scenarios that scholars present in explanation of “that day”. I don’t espouse any particular one and to me it is irrelevant, because the important thing is that Jehovah Tsaba has my name engraved in the palms of His hands (Isaiah 49:16) and has an angel army, a 1/3 larger than Satan’s, to protect His Remnant.
Old Covenant Relevance
God’s Name was enough for David to win the war with the Philistines because David knew God’s Name was more than simply a Name- It was a door or gate to His Power. Young David boldly proclaims: “You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the Name of the Lord of Hosts, Jehovah Tsaba, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted. This day the Lord will deliver you up into my hands, and I will strike you down and remove your head from you. And I will give the dead bodies of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel and that all this assembly may know that the Lord does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into our hands.” (1 Samuel 17:45-47) Goliath the giant taunted the Israelite army for many days of their inability to fight him or to defeat him. The Israelite army, under king Saul’s leadership, were in fear and afraid to fight Goliath. When David comes on the scene, he didn’t see Goliath as a threat, instead he saw Goliath as an obstacle that needed removal. David knew Almighty God and believed Him to be an unstoppable Warrior. Goliath didn’t intimidate David in the least, because David knew that he could call upon Jehovah Tsaba! We know the end of the story, Jehovah Tsaba, through David killed Goliath. David knew this victory wasn’t in his strength or might, rather it was Jehovah Tsaba’s strength and might that defeated Goliath the giant that was in his path.
Consider the Christophany in Joshua 5:13-15: “When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him holding a drawn sword. Joshua approached him and asked him, ‘Are you on our side or allied with our enemies?’ He answered, ‘Truly I am the commander of the Lord’s army. Now I have arrived!’ Joshua bowed down with his face to the ground and asked, ‘What does my master want to say to his servant?’ The commander of the Lord’s army answered Joshua, ‘Remove your sandals from your feet, because the place where you stand is holy.’ Joshua did so.”
In Haggai 2:4-9 we encounter the Lord of Hosts: “But now be strong, O Zerubbabel, declares the LORD. Be strong, O Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. And be strong, all you people of the land, declares the LORD. Work! For I am with you, declares the LORD of Hosts. This is the promise I made to you when you came out of Egypt. And My Spirit remains among you; do not be afraid. For this is what the LORD of Hosts says: Once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all the nations, and they will come with all their treasures, and I will fill this house with glory, says the LORD of Hosts. The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine, declares the LORD of Hosts. The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former, says the LORD of Hosts. And in this place I will provide peace, declares the LORD of Hosts.”
New Covenant and Efficacy Today of Jehovah Tsaba’s Power
Fast forward to today and realize that the Lord is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews !3:8). His word is forever settled and will never return void, rather accomplish His purpose (Isaiah 55:11). Jehovah Tsaba’s mission has never and will never change; He wants all created in His image to serve as joint heirs in His Kingdom. God has already shown us the victorious ending of the ages. We stand in faith and watch our Commander Jehovah Tsaba and His angelic hosts fight on our behalf to the predetermined victory. The battle is the Lord’s. It is a done deal. “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:” Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these we might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (2 Peter 1: 3-4). In Ephesians 6 Paul tells us how the Oikos or household is to function in the kingdom culture and concludes in verse 10 by saying: “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” The obvious conclusion is that we need not worry about the assured victory, but rather we need to intercede and do all we are shown, but remember that the battle is the Lords and His name is Jehovah Tsaba.
“For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” Habakkuk 2:3
